‘Everyone is experiencing uncertainty’: Mental health counseling in high demand during pandemic, providers say

Health concerns related to the deadly pandemic and prolonged isolation due to stay-at-home orders are taking a toll on the mental health of south suburban residents, counselors and other providers said.
“Everyone is experiencing some level of anxiety,” said Felicia Houston, a licensed counselor and community liaison for behavioral health care at University of Chicago Medicine’s Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey. “Everyone is experiencing uncertainty.”
Those feeling anxious may find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.
Houston and four other south suburban professionals participated in an online town hall Monday focusing on mental health, addiction and spirituality amid the COVID-19 crisis. Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, D-Lynwood, organized and hosted the event as a service for residents.
